Visit www.capitalone.com/activate, sign in to your Capital One account (or enroll if you are new), and follow the prompts. Activation typically takes under 2 minutes.
Yes. Call the activation number printed on the sticker on the front of your new card, or call the number on the back of the card. The automated phone system will guide you through activation.
Online or phone activation is nearly instant. Once you receive confirmation, your card is ready to use immediately for most purchases.
No. Capital One requires the physical card to be in your possession for activation. You will need the card number, expiration date, and CVV printed on the card.

Account & Access

Yes, a Capital One online account is required to activate your card online. If you do not have one yet, you can create your account and activate your card in the same session at www.capitalone.com/activate — just follow the Enroll & Activate prompts. If you prefer not to go online, you can also activate by calling the number on the sticker attached to your card.
Go to verified.capitalone.com/sign-in-help and follow the recovery steps. Once you have regained access, return to www.capitalone.com/activate to complete card activation.
Only authorized users or the primary account holder should activate the card. If your card arrives already activated or you did not authorize someone to activate it, contact Capital One fraud support immediately.

After Activation

Wait a few minutes and try again. For chip-and-PIN transactions, the PIN may take up to 24 hours to propagate. If the card is still declined, call the number on the back of the card.
Yes, for most in-store and online purchases your card is ready the moment activation is confirmed. Some features like ATM access may require additional PIN setup.
You will see a confirmation message on screen during the online activation process. You can also sign in to your Capital One account and check the card status in your account dashboard.
